About Us
From the heart of Dongbei to the streets of Flushing — a journey of flavor, passion, and tradition.
Our Story
Jiu Xiang Ju (酒香居) — "Wine Fragrance Residence" — was born from a simple dream: to bring the bold, soul-warming flavors of Northeastern China to New York City. Our founder, inspired by the hearty stews and vibrant spice of Dongbei home cooking, opened our doors on Main Street in Flushing with one mission — authenticity, always.
Today, we're proud to be one of Flushing's most beloved Dongbei restaurants. Our signature KEN WO BA (啃我吧) spicy duck heads have become legendary, drawing food lovers from across the five boroughs. From our sizzling iron pot stews meant for sharing, to the delicate balance of heat and umami in every dish — we honor the culinary traditions of China's Northeast with every plate we serve.
At Jiu Xiang Ju, you're never just a customer. You're family. Pull up a chair, share a pot, and let the flavors of Dongbei tell their story.
Our Journey
A brief history of how Jiu Xiang Ju became a cornerstone of authentic Dongbei cuisine in New York.
Our founder, raised in the hearty kitchens of Northeastern China, arrives in New York with a suitcase full of family recipes and an unwavering passion for Dongbei cuisine.
After years of planning and perfecting, Jiu Xiang Ju opens its doors at 43-18 Main Street, Flushing — bringing authentic Dongbei flavors to NYC for the first time.
Our signature spicy duck heads gain such a devoted following that we create the KEN WO BA (啃我吧) brand — a playful nod to our most iconic dish and the duck that started it all.
We introduce the full iron pot stew experience to our menu — a communal, interactive dining tradition straight from Dongbei that transforms every meal into a shared celebration.
With 50+ dishes, a loyal following, and a 4.5-star rating, Jiu Xiang Ju stands as one of NYC's premier destinations for authentic Dongbei cuisine — and we're just getting started.
Our Values
These core principles guide everything we do — from sourcing ingredients to welcoming each guest.
We never cut corners. Every recipe stays true to its Dongbei roots — from the spice blends to the cooking techniques passed down through generations.
In Dongbei culture, guests are treated like family. We carry that tradition forward — expect generous portions, warm smiles, and genuine care in every interaction.
Great food starts with great ingredients. We source our produce, seafood, and meats daily to ensure every dish bursts with fresh, vibrant flavor.
Food is meant to be shared. Our iron pot stews and family-style plates are designed to bring people together around the table, just like in Dongbei.
While we honor tradition, we're not afraid to innovate. Dishes like our KEN WO BA duck heads blend classic techniques with bold, modern flavors.
Cooking isn't just our job — it's our calling. Every dish that leaves our kitchen carries the love, care, and passion of our entire team.
Our Brand
KEN WO BA (啃我吧 — literally "Eat Me!") is more than a dish — it's a brand, a mascot, and a movement. Born from our best-selling spicy duck heads, KEN WO BA has become the playful, bold face of Jiu Xiang Ju.
Our iconic duck mural inside the restaurant tells the story: a line of eager ducks marching forward, each one more excited than the last, culminating in a flag-waving leader shouting "Let's Go!" It's a spirit that captures the energy, fun, and fearlessness of Dongbei culture.
When you see KEN WO BA on our menu, you know you're getting our absolute best — the dish that made us famous, prepared with the fieriest spices and the boldest flavors we've got.
